Hello everyone, 👋🏻
Today I return to this space, my blog, after months of silence. And wow, do I have stories to share! I promise this time I won’t abandon it. ✨ In this post, I want to open my heart and tell you about one of the most intense and eye-opening experiences of my life—a rollercoaster of emotions that completely transformed me.
The Beginning of a Dream
In September 2023, my great adventure began. I joined as a volunteer at a hospital in South Africa dedicated to the care of small wildlife. It felt like a dream come true: learning about the local fauna, understanding the laws and veterinary procedures of this unique country, and working with fascinating animals I had never treated before. 🧜
By the end of November, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement, I asked if there was a possibility to continue supporting the hospital for a longer period. To my surprise, the opportunity came! In January, I resumed my volunteering as a veterinary assistant, eager to keep learning and helping at the facility. The first months were magical. Everything seemed to flow perfectly, or at least it was manageable.
When the Dream Becomes a Nightmare
In May, I returned to Chile to change my visa and continue regularly. But when I came back in June, everything had changed. The director, who had previously praised me, began questioning my knowledge, treating me with disdain, and, worst of all, blaming me for situations beyond my control. 🚫
One case that still weighs on me was a small bird that died after an episode of extreme stress. There were too many people around, and despite my efforts to provide it with some peace, the animal didn’t survive. The result? The director completely blamed me for its death. I felt devastated and heartbroken. 💔
But that wasn’t the only case. I also remember an amphibian patient with a severe injury. I suggested a treatment based on my experience, but the director chose to use “surgical glue.” As expected, the patient didn’t survive. I witnessed many negligent decisions and, though it hurt, I couldn’t openly question them.
Bullying, Disillusionment, and Breaking Point
The atmosphere became unbearable. From June to July, I endured mistreatment, sarcastic comments, and constant humiliation. They even offered to reduce my support with absurd excuses: that I didn’t have a car, that I wasn’t available by phone 24/7, among other things. Additionally, they removed me from the clinic and directed me to only work outside with rehabilitation tasks, excluding me from my original functions. I would come home crying, feeling more and more broken. 💔
What hurt me the most was when the director and her partner questioned my ability to pass the registration exams. They said South American veterinarians were not up to the standard, that I wouldn’t succeed, and that the process was too difficult for me. While those words deeply wounded me, I decided not to give up and prove them wrong. 💪
Finally, in August, I made one of the hardest decisions: to resign. I couldn’t continue enduring that toxicity. However, when I announced my departure, the director made an unexpected turn. Suddenly, she started giving me advice for my exams and told me to return anytime if I felt stressed while studying. Unbelievable! 🙄
A New Beginning
After leaving the hospital, I focused entirely on my studies. I knew I had to prove to myself what I was capable of achieving. By the end of November, I passed all my veterinary registration exams! Every single one of them. It was a triumphant moment I will never forget. Now, I am preparing for my next stage: completing my community service as a veterinarian for a year. I am excited, thrilled, and ready for this new adventure. 🚀✨
Final Reflections
This experience taught me many lessons. I will never again blindly trust false friendships or allow anyone to question my worth without standing up for myself. I learned that people who act unethically will eventually face the consequences of their actions. As for me, I continue to believe in karma and in my ability to overcome any obstacle. 🌟
Thank you for reading this deeply personal story. I look forward to your opinions, advice, and, above all, your support. ❤️
See you soon with new adventures. 🌐
